Andrew Lister is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist who has worked in Child Mental health services since qualifying from Manchester University in 1988. His clinical work has always involved direct assessment and treatment of children and their families, as well as working through consultation and training. He provides reports to families, care agencies, commissioners and courts that inform care planning and the identification of appropriate therapeutic interventions for young people in care.
Andrew uses his expertise in child development, child protection, risk assessment, trauma, the impact of family change and the challenges of life in the care system to inform his assessments of a person's needs. He develops an understanding of a young person's needs through analysis of their history and current presentations. He uses an attachment theory framework to develop recommendations and interventions that logically emerge from his assessments.
Andrew has taught on the Plymouth, Exeter, UWE and Bristol University doctoral training programmes as well as provided training to charities (BAAF, CCS and "Our Place") and local agencies including the Bristol Safeguarding Children Board. He has developed training programmes on Attachment, Aggression, Resilience, Re-parenting, and the meaning of lying and stealing. His popular and highly-regarded workshops on Attachment and Care interventions are always over-subscribed and invariably receive excellent feedback.
