Experience

Joanne Cousins is a British Psychological Society Chartered Educational Psychologist. She qualified as a special needs teacher in 2000 and as an Educational Psychologist in 2004. She has over 16 years of experience working with a diverse range of children and adults in a voluntary and paid capacity. She is currently employed by Bristol City Council providing services to children and young people aged 0-19 years.

Joanne specialises in Early Years work. She delivers the Webster Stratton incredible years parenting programme. Joanne is experienced in assessment and intervention of young people identified as having Autistic Spectrum Disorders. She previously managed the Early Years ASD team for Bristol and sits on a health based multi-professional assessment team for children with social and communication difficulties.

In her work she operates at a whole school level, focusing on systems to support staff and children over time; at a whole class level to coach teachers about the instructional environment and inclusion of young people; at a individual child level to observe, assess and support children therapeutically; at a family level to help embed and consolidate knowledge and skills and at a multi-agency level to focus on service delivery and swift communication to ensure support and action for young people and their families.

Joanne works on a strong ethos of proactive engagement around systems and ultimate empowerment of children and those involved in the care and education of young people to help identify and develop resilience over time.
