As a Consultant Clinical Health Psychologist, I specialise in working with people who’ve experienced psychological trauma with a physical involvement as adults (for example, after a car crash or a workplace injury), with people whose health problems as adults have made old trauma more difficult to cope with, and with people who have psychological support needs linked to physical health conditions. Difficulties might include
I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 1995, after 15 years working in community projects, voluntary organisations and charities. That included setting up two charities, working creatively with people who have learning difficulties and supporting women who have experienced sexual violence, and jobs like managing a large housing project for people with severe learning difficulties and physical impairments.
After qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist I worked for 4 years in an inner city Community Mental Health service for adults, before moving into my work with people who have physical health difficulties in 1999. I currently manage the regional specialist service for children and adults with visible differences / disfigurements and appearance concerns at North Bristol NHS Trust and also work there as a Consultant Clinical Health Psychologist across all specialties, with adults who have conditions like cancer, persistent pain or Post Trauma after an accident. For almost 10 years I set up and led the psychology service for 3 local Disabled Adults’ Resource (DART) Teams, for people with complex physical and neurological impairments. As well as working directly with clients, I provide training, consultation and supervision.
In my private work, I started providing specialist assessments for people making personal injury claims in 2000 and have continued to work for local solicitors since then. I have completed the Bond Solon course in Expert Witness Report Writing. I also provide specialist psychological therapy for Post Trauma and support people to cope with long term conditions.
I’m a member of several specialist organisations including

Clinical Health Psychologists work with people who have health problems of any kind, taking a completely individualised approach that combines the knowledge from clinical psychology and health psychology. I assess your difficulties with you by making a working partnership: you bring all your expertise about you, and I bring nearly 30 years’ experience and training in a variety of psychology approaches. Then, if it’s appropriate, I develop a psychotherapy intervention specific to you as an individual, couple, family or group. If I don’t think I can meet your needs, or if I think I know someone who can meet them better, I’ll say so.
The premises I use are fully accessible to most people with sensory or mobility impairments and I’m experienced at working with interpreters (including sign language interpreters). I’ve got a lot of experience of working with people who have complex physical, neurological, cognitive or communication impairments, with people who use assistive communication technology and with people who use personal assistants. Please let me know what your specific access requirements are and I’ll do my best to meet them
