Prior to her clinical training Dr Rachael Hunter gained extensive expertise in working with children with behavioural difficulties, as well as with both children and adults with Autistic Spectrum Disorders. She completed her Psychology Masters at The University of Bristol in 1999 and went on to complete her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, awarded from University of Plymouth in 2004. Since qualifying Rachael has worked in South Wales, for Gwent Child and Family Psychology Service, and for South Gloucestershire Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. She has recently completed training in the Level One, ‘Family Therapy in Context’ Post-Qualifying Professional Programme at the University of Bristol.
Rachael provides specialist clinical assessment and intervention for complex emotional and mental health issues which children and young people may be experiencing. She has particular skills and an interest in working with children and young people with attachment difficulties and who may have experienced traumas such as sexual abuse, neglect and domestic violence. She has provided multi-agency training on the impact of domestic violence on children’s mental health, and teaching to local clinical psychology Doctorate training programmes.
