Dr Simon Bird qualified from the University of Plymouth doctoral training course in 1999. Since qualification he has worked in two of the four Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Bristol.
Simon specialises in clinical interventions with children and young people faced by complex emotional and mental health issues. He has particular skill in working with difficulties associated with adolescence and the teenage years. He works extensively with children and young people on the autistic spectrum, and is trained in the assessment and diagnosis of these difficulties.
In addition to clinical work Simon has provided training to numerous agencies in the Bristol area and regularly teaches at local universities. He is experienced in the use of qualitative research methodologies, and frequently contributes to audit and evaluation studies within the NHS.
Simon has undertaken expert witness instruction since 2001, primarily from the Family Courts. He specialises in the assessment of complex care issues, and cases where mental health or learning issues may impact on the findings of the Court.
Simon has a keen interest in the use of new technologies in the health care arena and is leading the development of therapynetwork.co.uk, a directory and community for health professionals providing therapeutic services to the general public. He has developed bespoke data- and referral-management systems for North Bristol CAMHS.
