Assessment ¶

PSP offers assessment of children and young people who have difficulties in the areas of:

Social relationships
Emotional understanding
Anxiety and obsessions
Limited imagination
Restrictive interests

When some or all of these difficulties are present it can be useful to consider a full assessment of a child's needs, particularly where it may allow access to support from schools and other organisations. Families frequently have concerns about their children and can find a detailed assessment extremely helpful.

PSP offers a range of assessments from basic screening interviews to detailed assessments of a child's development and cognitive abilities using information from home and from school.

Consultation and Therapeutic Work ¶

Once a child's needs have been identified we offer a range of support options for families. Work with parents aimed at understanding their child can help enormously in developing effective ways of managing difficult situations, especially where they feel that they have tried everything in the past with little or no success. Individual work can help young people understand their own difficulties and explore ways of addressing them. Consultation to schools can ensure that a child's needs are understood and that the most appropriate supports are put in place.
